How age is calculated

Calendar age is found by advancing complete calendar years, then complete months, then the remaining days from the date of birth to the target date.

Years, months and days

The main result is a calendar decomposition such as 30 years, 4 months, 12 days. Completed months are counted after completed years rather than treating every month as a fixed number of days.

Why dividing days by 365 is inaccurate

Calendar years do not all have the same length, and months vary from 28 to 31 days. Dividing elapsed days by 365 cannot reproduce calendar age reliably.

Leap years

Leap years contain February 29. They are divisible by 4, except century years must also be divisible by 400.

February 29 birthdays

For this calculator, an anniversary that would fall on February 29 in a non-leap year is clamped to February 28 for the intermediate calendar calculation.

Age on a past or future date

You can replace the default target date with another date to calculate calendar age at a past or future point, provided it is not before the date of birth.

Calendar convention used by VETIKA

When adding a year or month would create a nonexistent day, such as February 29 in a non-leap year or day 31 in a shorter month, VETIKA clamps that intermediate date to the last valid day of the target month.

No. Version 1 works with calendar dates only and does not calculate hours, minutes or seconds.

No. The pure calculation uses date components rather than local timestamp differences.
