Understand the result
A grade percentage compares the points you earned with the points that were available. It works for assignments, projects, homework, rubrics, and exams where items may carry different point values.
Grade percentage formula
Grade percentage = points earned ÷ points possible × 100
The calculator keeps the ratio as entered and does not cap the result at 100%.
Worked example
If you earn 43.5 points out of 50 possible, 43.5 ÷ 50 × 100 gives a grade percentage of 87%.

Points vs. questions
Counting correct questions is appropriate only when each question has equal value. A points-based percentage is more general: one question can be worth 1 point while another is worth 5, and only the total earned and possible points matter.
Extra credit
Points earned may be greater than points possible when bonus or extra-credit points are added. In that case a result above 100% is valid. The calculator shows zero points not earned rather than a negative value.
Grade percentage vs. GPA
A percentage is a points ratio. GPA is a separate grade-point system that often uses letter grades and course credits. This tool does not convert the percentage into a GPA because institutional scales vary.
